Counselling is a humanistic talking therapy, it’s a one to one experience. Your counselling therapist will be there to guide you through the process.
Life can and always will, present challenges, how we deal with them is key. No one on this planet has not ever at some time, experienced loss, sadness, fear or helplessness, naming just a few of the many human conditions that we endure. Interestingly we may not sometimes recognise them, as we are busy dealing with our present and past emotional survival or we may push them down, due to the discomfort they may bring us
We all have a deep seated feeling to be understood and understand others, this was made more accessible in the past, as the social settings for human beings were more organic and communal. In today’s world we have more thrown at us, at a pace that appears to be running at an uncontrollable rate.
Whilst we have more technology, more leisure time, somehow there can be something missing, deep down in our human psyche/consciousness we try to access that part of us. The term coined individuation, termed by eminent Swiss psychiatrist/psychologist C G Jung 1875-1961 (who is also my role model) is to recognise “your inner most uniqueness” you are unique, you have had your own life experience specific to you, your family – upbringing – education – ideas of self-value, they all contribute to where you are now. Counselling is part of your self discovery to enable you to view things in a more expanded way. Whilst counselling does deal “with the here and now issue” it may well be that the past has had a role to play in today’s issue/s
A counselor cannot “cure you” this is where you come in, as you are your own expert, this is part of your own personal growth, development and where your innate, resolution process take place
Where to find therapy, the choices are vast, confusing and sometimes unclear. You may have even tried others, this is normal, until you find “the right fit” someone you feel comfortable working with – this is known as the working or therapeutic relationship
How to access counseling therapy, where do I start? You have already! So please take time to look at the NC&T website, call for or email for more details (online form available)
So what’s a mentor and what is the difference? Whilst a counselor is there to support and guide you, a mentor will also offer advice, based on their understanding and experience in a particular field
Why the dandelion logo? The humble dandelion symbolizes: overcoming hardship (just look where they grow), resilience (they have ability to overcome adversity in tough growing conditions) and lastly hope and healing (they made it! they flower, seed and move on and keep going on and grow)
